Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has revealed encouraging news about his squad ahead of this weekend's Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates.
The Glamour Boys came off a last minute 1-0 victory over Baroka FC three days ago to move up the DStv Premiership table and now face their bitter rivals as the race to finish in that second spot behind title favourites Mamelodi Sundowns picks up momentum.
"We do have some fresh legs. For the next game we are expecting Bernard Parker to be back. Samir Nurkovic (suspended for the Pirates game) has (had) a good hour under his belt, Leonardo Castro has had time on the field and Lebogang Manyama has had more time on the field, so we have a full squad to look at now," Baxter said on the club's official website.
Chiefs started 2022 on the wrong foot when they were knocked out of the Nedbank Cup and played a goalless draw away to Cape Town City in the league.
Khama Billiat's last-gasp goal at Baroka was the first for Amakhosi since the long break enforced by the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
"We have Pirates up next. Traditionally one that you think the game before 'will they take their eye off the ball? – on both accounts I think we kept discipline well. Pirates is a completely different game, how we set up tactically against them waits to be seen. We will suck on this caramel and then it's back to work," said Baxter.
