Result: Orlando Pirates 1-1 Kaizer Chiefs
Date: 30 January 2016
Venue: FNB Stadium
Willard Katsande's first half strike was cancelled out by Thamsanqa Gabuza, as Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs played out to a 1-1 draw at the FNB Stadium.
Chiefs had the first real opening of the game in the 21st minute when Siphiwe Tshabala did well to find Camaldine Abraw, who headed wide of the mark from close range.
The Buccaneers did have the ball in the back of the net after 24 minutes when Edwin Gyimah headed past Khune. However, the Thabo Qalinge took the set-piece before the referee's whistle and the goal was ruled out.
Steve Komphela's charges broke the deadlock in the 27th minute, as Eric Mathoho's header landed at the feet of Katsande, who slotted into the bottom corner from six-yards out.
Itumeleng Khune was called upon after 30 minutes, as the Chiefs goalkeeper showed good reflexes to keep out Thamsanqa Gabuza's glancing header.
Chiefs went into the break deserved leaders, having seen more of the possession, while they also created more chances than their Soweto counterparts.
Khune came to Chiefs' rescue 10 minutes into the second half, as he tipped Thandani Ntshumayelo's stinging effort over the crossbar.
Eric Tinkler opted to re-shuffle his back after the hour-mark, as he introduced Mpho Makola and Sifiso Myeni for Ntshumayelo and Majoro respectively.
Pirates leveled matters in the 69th minute, as Gabuza rose well to head home into the far corner, after getting on the end of a long throw.
Chiefs were then dealt a blow during the build-up of Pirates' equaliser, as Khune damaged his ankle and was replaced by Reyaad Pieterse.
Both sides pushed for a winning goal in the closing stages of the second half, but they were both left frustrated and forced to settle for a point.
