Sony is upping their order of launch consoles for the PlayStation 5, according to reports in the media.
News emerged on Nikkei Asian Review, with sourced detailing that there would be an order of an additional three million PS5 consoles for launch, as they anticipate higher demand.
It was reported in April that Sony's launch supply of the next generation console could be lower than the initial amount of the PS4, but it is now reported that it won't be the case.
The latest reports indicate that there was an initial intention to order 6 million united, and now Sony will order 9 million consoles, though the time frame of the production of these consoles has not been highlighted.
The PS5 will be assembled in the new Sony factory in Japan. Bloomberg also reports that the company aims to hit the 10 million mark by the end of 2020.
The reason behind the decision to increase production is reportedly due to the higher demand caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it is also noted that this may not be the final figure, and it could increase or decrease depending on the market closer to launch.
