The release of The Last of Us 2 brought the topic of 'review bombing' into the spotlight once again, and forced review aggregating site, Metacritic, into a big change.
Naughty Dog's latest release is exclusive for PlayStation owners, and considering the rivalry between Xbox and PlayStation fans, these titles can come under attack from rival fans.
This was clearly noticeable with the Last of Us 2, which received critical acclaim from media outlets, but was slaughtered by user reviews in a matter of hours after its release.
The controversy around The Last of Us 2 was not solely regarding the console exclusivity, but also its story choices and characters.
To avoid a repeat of the same issue, Metacritic made a major change with the launch of another PlayStation exclusive, Ghost of Tsushima.
When logging on to Metacritic, players were told to wait at least 36 hours after launch to post their reviews.
Gamespot got in touch with a spokesperson for the site, who was quoted as saying, "We recently implemented the 36 hour waiting period for all user reviews in our games section to ensure our gamers have time to play these games before writing their reviews."
It will be interesting to see how this can impact review bombing in the future, but at the time of writing, Ghost of Tsushima has a user score of 9.2 from 5651 reviews.
