The Siya crew has been reliably informed that experienced defender Tshepo Gumede is set to secure a deal with Maritzburg United. The player has left Marumo Gallants after the club got relegated from the DStv Premiership and has been on the lookout for a new club since his contract with the side expired at the end of June.
He was a key player for the Limpopo outfit in the two years he spent with them, playing an integral role in their journey to the 2022 Nedbank Cup final, as well as their fairytale CAF Confederation Cup run of last season.
Now, after leaving the club, the ex-Orlando Pirates man is set to make a return to KZN, having previously been on the books of AmaZulu FC. He has been training with the Team of Choice, with the expectation of concluding a deal. Zipho Dlangalala has been roped in as new coach and it's understood that he is keen to bring Gumede in after the club let go of a few players.
"He is training with Maritzburg, and he just has to finalise a few things, then he will join the team," a source told the crew.
