Mabasa: From Bucs To Bucks

Mabasa: From Bucs To Bucks

Orlando Pirates are determined on securing the future of their leading striker, Tshegofatso Mabasa, with an enhanced contract, reflecting the club's commitment to retaining its key talent amidst interest from rival teams.

Soccer Laduma had previously discussed how Pirates were hoping to hold onto their player while the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns were interested in him.

Now, Siya sources close to both the player and the Buccaneers have revealed plans for an upgraded contract that aims to keep Mabasa at the club for the foreseeable future.

The proposed contract adjustment is not just a testament to Mabasa's value within the squad but also positions him among the top earners in the league.

"His initial contract has years to go. But the team feels they need to improve that contract now and give him a new and improved contract. This contract will keep him at the club until June 2028. That's so good for a player and the club as well. This just shows how much the club values him and the player also wants to stay at the club," the Siya source told Soccer Laduma.

A second Siya source emphasized the significance of the new deal, suggesting that it would make Mabasa one of the highest-paid players not only at Pirates but across the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

"With the (potential) new and improved contract on the table I don't think he can think of leaving the club. He will be one of the highest earning players in the country. It will not even be necessary for him to move to another club. After all, the technical team as well as the management are happy with him so from my point of view the new improved deal is as good as done," the source added.

In light of these developments, Soccer Laduma reached out to Mabasa's agent, Garry Cassisa, who confirmed the player's current satisfaction at Pirates, as well as his focus on personal and team achievements.

"For now he is a Pirates player and he is happy there. He still has two years on the (current) contract and at the moment his main focus is helping the team achieve things. Also for himself, it's good at the moment. His main focus is on winning the DStv Premiership Golden Boot Award as well as the Nedbank Cup Top Goal Scorer. Then the rest will sort themselves out at the end of the season. But above all, it's to say that he is happy at Pirates right now," Cassisa told Soccer Laduma.

This ongoing situation underscores the club's strategic efforts to build a competitive team by securing its most influential players, with Mabasa's potential contract renewal marking a significant move in this direction.

Soccer Laduma contacted Pirates for a comment but the club did not respond by the time this story was published.
