SuperSport United remain in talks with Mamelodi Sundowns over midfielder Grant Margeman, it's been confirmed to the Siya crew. Margeman spent the past season on loan to the Randburg-based side and was an important player in Gavin Hunt's squad, claiming the Players' Player of the season award at the club.
When he joined, it was announced that he, as well as Ricardo Goss, had signed a two-year loan deal, but it's been reported that Downs were interested in having the midfielder back during pre-season. SuperSport CEO Stan Matthews confirmed to Soccer Laduma that they definitely want to have the player in their squad again in the coming season, but it's all down to the talks they have with their Tshwane rivals.
The club, however, will turn their attention to someone else in that role should they not come to an agreement soon.
"We are hoping to conclude with Sundowns this week or we have to look at other targets because the clock is ticking," Matthews said when contacted by the Siya crew for a comment on situation.
The Brazilians have a lot of options in the middle of the park, with the likes of Teboho Mokoena, Bongani Zungu, Sipho Mbule and Sphelele Mkhulise to choose from. But following the departure of Haashim Domingo and Andile Jali, the defending champions could be looking at having adequate back-up, which is where a player like Margeman comes in.
An announcement on where the player will spend the upcoming season is expected to be made this month.
