However, sources have indicated that the striker has not been keen on a switch to the Dube Birds as he has his own choice of a possible destination.
Sources have confirmed that AmaZulu have joined the race for the player's signature, with the 26-year-old understood to be keen on move to KwaZulu-Natal.
Usuthu currently have Mabasa's former Pirates teammate Gabadinho Mhango facing an uncertain future with the club, with the latest reports linking him with a move to Kaizer Chiefs.
The Durban-based club has identified Mabasa as a possible replacement for the Malawian international.

"Tshegofatso Mabasa's situation at Pirates is being closely monitored by AmaZulu and there is interest," said the source.
"The club had the opportunity to watch him closely when he was in Durban and playing for Bafana Bafana during the COSAFA Cup and were impressed. He is seen as a possible replacement for Gaba (Mhango), should he leave for greener pastures as it has been expected," the source added.
