Orlando Pirates appear to have made a decision regarding the future of Evidence Makgopa, insiders have revealed.
It was recently reported by the Siya crew that the club had been considering sending the lanky forward out on loan, with Chippa United one of the clubs understood to be keen on his services.
Following the injury he picked up on arrival at the Soweto giants from Baroka FC, Makgopa struggled for game-time under coach Jose Riveiro. The striker made just four appearances in 2022/23 without a single start and had been linked with an exit, albeit on loan.
With the Buccaneers preparing for a return to the CAF Champions League next season, indications from insiders are that the club will not be parting ways with many players as squad depth will be key for Riveiro and his technical team as they will be competing in different competitions.
"Pirates are no longer planning to send Evidence Makgopa on loan. Initially, the plan was to send him on loan so that he could get more game-time after the difficult first season he has had. But with the team going to the Champions League, the club will be careful on the players to release," said a source.
With Bienvenu Eva Nga looking likely to secure a move to SuperSport United, and Zakhele Lepasa's situation at the Soweto giants 'touch and go', it would make sense for Bucs to keep Makgopa, giving the former Baroka man an opportunity to finally prove his worth at the club.
