Pirates Monitoring Defender That Chiefs Let Go?

Pirates Monitoring Defender That Chiefs Let Go?

Insiders from the Pirates camp stated that Mdaka could being considered for the left back position, starting next season.

"You see that young defender? The left back who came from Chiefs? Yes, Mdaka, Orlando Pirates are monitoring him. They are finding it difficult to get Fawaaz (Basadien) so they think Omega (Mdaka) would be a good option. He is still young and he has great potential. They are monitoring him first before they could make any move," the Siya source stated.

A second insider stated that Pirates are prioritising the left back position for the upcoming transfer window.

"This could work properly for the club because at the moment their main focus in the defence is left back. They only have Innocent Maela who is not playing that much and then Paseka Mako who just returned from injury and that's why Deon Hotto has mainly been playing in that position. So, now they are looking for another left back and Mdaka has emerged as one of the top targets according to their scouts and recruiters. So, let's wait and see," the second source told the Siya crew.

The 21-year-old former Amajita defender has featured in many games across various tournaments for Stellenbosch FC this season. Last year, Mdaka, along with Puso Dithejane and Donay Jansen, was suspended by Chiefs for refusing ball boy duties.

While Jansen apologised and returned to the team, Mdaka and Dithejane moved on to Stellenbosch and TS Galaxy respectively. Jansen is currently on loan at SuperSport United.

Soccer Laduma contacted Pirates for comment but the club had not responded by the time this report was published.
