No Clean Sheets: Are Chiefs Looking For Another Defender?

No Clean Sheets: Are Chiefs Looking For Another Defender?

Kaizer Chiefs have played five Betway Premiership league games, winning two, drawing one, and losing two, so concerns have been raised about their inconsistency so far.

Amakhosi are yet to keep a clean sheet in the league, and the Siya crew investigates whether management is looking at making further improvements in defence.

Siya sources close to the club have indicated that despite these results, head coach Nasreddine Nabi believes that defence is the strongest department at Chiefs right now.

The sources added that the coach is happy with the defence, which is why he is not looking at signing any defenders in the January transfer window.

"No, not for now. The defence is the least of Nabi's worries. He is actually happy with how the defence has been performing. If you look at it, in all the official games he hasn't changed the defence and that is because he is happy with what they are doing. Yes, there could be substitutions here and there during the game because of tactical changes and how the opponents are playing but not that he is unhappy with the defence. Actually he is not worried about that department," the Siya source stated.

A second Siya source also stated that because the coach is happy with the defence, they are not even looking at signing new defenders but may loan out or release those who do not fit into the team plans for now.

"The only issue that was once or twice raised was that of the goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari. Not that they are not happy but to rest him and give him breathing space. Yes, as the last line of defence. But for the defenders the coach is happy. The only thing is that they could loan out two or three of them during the January transfer window so that they have regular game time at another team but as far as those who have been playing so far - the coach is happy," the second source stated.

Since the start of the season, the central pairing of Inacio Miguel and Rushwin Dortley, together with right-back Reeve Frosler and left-back Bradley Cross, have played every league game, with Given Msimango coming in as a substitute. Thatayaone Ditlhokwe and Zitha Kwinika are yet to get any minutes in the league this season.

As Chiefs continue their league campaign, coach Nabi's confidence in their defence remains strong. With no plans to sign new defenders in the upcoming transfer window, fans will be eager to see how the current defensive line-up performs in the coming matches.
