New Interest In Rayners From Europe

New Interest In Rayners From Europe

With his consistently impressive performances, it's no surprise that another European club has expressed interest in Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns striker Iqraam Rayners.

As previously reported by Soccer Laduma, Scottish giants Rangers FC were already said to have tabled a R55 million offer for Rayners.

Now, insiders close to Sundowns have indicated that a new European club from Belgium has also inquired about the former Stellenbosch FC striker.

The Siya sources added that while the specific Belgian club was not named, Sundowns' management is aware of the interest.

"The interest in Iqraam (Rayners) is growing each and every day. There are more teams monitoring him and now there is a team from Belgium that has inquired about him. We are not yet sure which team it is because the Sporting Director (Flemming Berg) is the one dealing with it together with management and the board. But after Scottish side Rangers offered R55m for Rayners now there is another European team from Belgium so let's just wait and see what happens with his next move," the source stated.

A second insider pointed out that Rayners' potential move to Europe or decision to remain at Sundowns largely hinges on the financial offers from interested clubs.

"You know for Sundowns they buy foreign players for over R60 million and selling their own for R55m will be more or less then what they would demand or agree to. So even though there is interest in Rayners, it will all depend on how much these clubs are offering. Remember the same happened with Teboho Mokoena? Sundowns don't just sell for the sake of selling. They are looking at the right price. So, even though at the moment there is interests from Rangers FC of Scotland and another new Belgian side inquiring about Rayners, it will all depend on who offers a better price to Sundowns," the second source stated.

Soccer Laduma contacted Sundowns for comment but the club had not responded by the time this report was published.

29-year-old Cape Town-born Rayners has been in outstanding form for both club and country in 2024. He currently leads the scoring charts in the PSL but has also scored in the Carling Knockout, the CAF Champions League and for his national team, Bafana Bafana.

As interest in Rayners continues to rise, the Brazilians and potential suitors are poised for careful negotiations in future. The striker's remarkable form makes him a valuable asset, and the club will weigh prospective offers to ensure any transfer aligns with their strategic goals and valuation standards.
