Kaizer Chiefs last week made a shock announcement, installing Molefi Ntseki as the new head coach, with Arthur Zwane demoted.
This came as a result of drawn- out talks between the Glamour Boys and favourite candidate Nasreddine Nabi, who preferred to bring his own technical team instead of working alongside the backroom staff already at Naturena.
With the clock ticking and players returning for pre-season last week, Amakhosi confirmed their head of technical and scouting as the man who will be in the hotseat ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.
It's a decision that has invited an uproar from the supporters, who feel Ntseki is underqualified for the job.
But Soccer Laduma understands the decision comes from high up the food chain at Chiefs, with the board overwhelmingly endorsing Ntseki's appointment and demoting Zwane to be his assistant along with Dillon Sheppard.
Ntseki is vastly experienced, albeit his work is mostly from a junior team point of view and his biggest role to date being Bafana Bafana coach for only seven months when he took over from Stuart Baxter in 2019.
The 53-year-old also worked at Bloemfontein Celtic as coach Clinton Larsen's second-in-command, but he made his name as a youth coach considering his track record at the famous Harmony Academy, an institution that produced the Mamelodi Sundowns duo of Teboho Mokoena and Sipho Mbule.
In the Chiefs board, Ntseki is believed to have ticked all the boxes as the club looks to continue the project started under Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jnr.
