Chiefs Looking As Far As Sweden For Reinforcements

Chiefs Looking As Far As Sweden For Reinforcements

News emerging from Naturena suggests Kaizer Chiefs are believed to have shown interest in Sweden-based midfielder Luke Le Roux, with an eye towards bringing him back to South Africa.

As previously reported by Soccer Laduma, Amakhosi's rivals Mamelodi Sundowns also expressed interest in the midfielder, though no deal had materialised.

Insiders have now indicated that Chiefs could shift their focus to Le Roux following challenges in acquiring their initial targets, such as Oswin Appollis and Tshepang Moremi from AmaZulu.

"Some of the new interest from the club is coming after failing to get their original targets like Oswin Appollis and also Tshepang Moremi from AmaZulu and that is why they are now looking at Luke Le Roux. They are really looking at boosting their midfield whether with a winger or a number 10 and Le Roux is one of the players they are looking at. It's all about the scouts and recruiters who suggest these players to the technical team as well as management," the Siya source stated.

A second insider told the Siya crew that any potential move hinges on Le Roux's decision whether to return to South Africa or continue his career in Europe, where he is currently with IFK Varnamo in Sweden.

"Even if we say they have the money to bring him back home like they did in the past with players like Bernard Parker, Tshepo Masilela or even Keagan Dolly, it will all depend on the player himself whether he wants to come back home or not. It will be interesting to see what happens with him in January and Chiefs are crossing their fingers to at least sign a player that both management and the technical team agree upon," the second source stated.

The 24-year-old Bafana Bafana midfielder has played consistently for Varnamo this season, but is not a regular for his national team, looking to step up from a substitute and into the starting XI in international football. With the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 on the horizon in Morocco, Le Roux will likely seek consistent club football, whether in Sweden or with Chiefs, to solidify his place in the squad. Lately, South Africa stars have found it easier to bring into Bafana via the PSL.

Soccer Laduma contacted the player's representative, Matthew Moore, who could neither confirm nor deny Chiefs' interest in Le Roux but cast doubt on a January transfer.

"There hasn't been any serious discussions with Chiefs' management about Luke Le Roux. Given all the central midfielders that Chiefs currently have, I assume that it's more likely they will look to add players at the start of next season as opposed to the January window," Moore told Soccer Laduma.

Attempts to reach Amakhosi for comment were unsuccessful at the time of publishing. As Chiefs consider bolstering their midfield with Le Roux, the club's strategic thinking underscores their dedication to strengthening their squad. Whether Le Roux opts to return home or remain in Europe, his decision will be pivotal for Chiefs as they aim to enhance their competitive edge in 2025.
