Latest: Lepasa's Pirates Future

Latest: Lepasa's Pirates Future

Orlando Pirates striker Zakhele Lepasa was linked with a move away from the club, but the transfer didn't materialise and now the Siya crew investigates the latest on his future.

Siya sources close to Pirates have indicated that Lepasa could finally move away from the club in the January transfer window, if certain conditions are fulfilled.

As previously reported by Soccer Laduma, clubs such as SuperSport United and Sekhukhune United had shown interest in Lepasa in the previous transfer window period but nothing came out of it. Now, the sources discuss why the move didn't happen and what is in store in January.

The insiders added that Lepasa's injury was part of the delay in his potential move but now that he is fully recovered, the interest is back on track.

"It's true these clubs that were interested in him haven't really stopped inquiring about him. I think what was holding the whole thing back was his injury and now that he is fully recovered and Pirates want to give him a chance to play, as well the team's interest in him, then he will also be looking at the next transfer window period which is in January," said the Siya source.

"So, there is a possibility that the loan deal could happen in January - that I can tell you. Then at the end of the season they would look at a permanent move if all the parties are happy with the arrangements involving a permanent deal," the source added.

A second source stated that Pirates are also looking at how they could use Lepasa going forward with the CAF Champions League group stages about to start.

"It's a tough decision that the club has to make right now. There is interest from other PSL clubs. The player wants to play and there are clubs which are interested in him. So they are looking at the next way to deal with the situation which will favour all the parties involved," the second source stated.

Even though there was immense competition in his position last season, and that is expected to continue for the rest of this campaign too, Lepasa played a decent amount of matches. It is because of his injury that he hasn't been able to show what he can do this season.

Soccer Laduma contacted Pirates for comment but the club had not responded by the time this report was published.

The Siya crew understands Lepasa would be happy to remain at Pirates, so the club has a big decision to make on his future, particularly since they will require depth when the Champions League group stages start.
