Latest: How Basadien Pursuit Affects Monyane's Pirates Future

Latest: How Basadien Pursuit Affects Monyane's Pirates Future

As previously reported by Soccer Laduma, Pirates were already negotiating to extend Monyane's deal, which was set to expire in June this year.

The insiders added that all parties would be keen to a new deal, and such a proposal is expected to keep the Pirates youth development product at the club until at least June 30, 2028.

"It's true the talks have been going on for some time now and the delay was at a time when it was believed that the club wanted to use him in an exchange deal with other players like Fawaaz Basadien from Stellenbosch FC, for example, and other deals as well, but since it didn't work out and they still need Thabiso, that is why apparently all the parties have agreed on a new deal. It's a two-year agreement with a one-year option. This (when signed) could see him remain at the club until June 2028," the insider told the Siya crew.

A second Siya source noted that with the Thabang Matuludi move unlikely, the club cannot afford to lose another right back without a backup plan in the transfer market.

"You know there are three outright right backs at the club. It's him (Monyane), Deano van Rooyen and Thabiso Lebitso so they can't lose one and only remain with two. What about injuries and suspensions? So, that is the other reason that has apparently prompted the club to keep him further," the second source stated.

Monyane, now 24, was promoted to the senior team from the development squad in 2019. This season, he has played in a few Betway Premiership games, often alternating positions with Van Rooyen, as Lebitso had been sidelined with injuries.

Soccer Laduma contacted Pirates for comment but the club had not responded by the time this report was published.
