'If It Was For Nwabali Then Chiefs Would Sign Him, But...'

Before signing Fiacre Ntwari, Kaizer Chiefs had reportedly shown interest and inquired about Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, but nothing had materialised back then.

Recently, the Nigerian expressed his love for the Glamour Boys, so now is there a chance that the Naturena-based side could reignite interest in him?

Questions were raised regarding Ntwari's slow start, but Siya sources close to both the goalkeeper and Amakhosi have indicated that the club is believed to no longer be interested in signing the Nigerian as they are happy with their current goalkeeping department.

The insiders stated that the technical team and management are satisfied with their options, including the youngsters from the development squad.

"If it was just for the player himself, I think Stanley (Nwabali) could have joined Chiefs. Even from the start he didn't hide his love and desire to play for Chiefs but it didn't work between the two clubs mainly because of the money they, Chippa United were looking at for the transfer," said the Siya source.

"So for now since they signed Ntwari and they have Bruce Bvuma and Brandon Petersen, it's not possible for the club to sign another top class goalkeeper like Nwabali. That option is out at the moment and it's unfortunate for both the club and player that the deal couldn't be agreed in July when Chiefs really needed him," the source added.

A second insider stated that Chiefs' technical team has decided to groom young goalkeepers, including Bontle Molefe, to be the future of the club.

"For now, they have the three older goalkeepers in Ntwari, Bvuma and Petersen and those are in the forefront. But for the future they want to work with Bontle Molefe and other youngsters from the DDC. They believe if they can loan Bontle out maybe for a season he could be a much better keeper when he gets more game time and develops. But for now, they want to be using the three senior goalkeepers with Ntwari being the first choice, then Bvuma and Petersen would compete for that second position," the second source stated.

However, despite Ntwari being tipped as the first choice, there has been doubts about his performances both for the club and his country Rwanda in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers recently. This led to the technical team reportedly holding a meeting to look into the goalkeeping situation at the club after losing 4-0 to Mamelodi Sundowns, as reported by the Siya crew.

Soccer Laduma contacted Chiefs for comment, but there was no response at the time of publishing.

As Chiefs focus on developing their current goalkeepers, any potential signing of Nwabali remains off the table. Fans will be eager to see how the club's goalkeeping situation evolves and whether the current line-up can meet the team's high expectations.
