Chippa is expected to bolster the goalkeeping department after losing Sipho Chaine who has been signed by Orlando Pirates.
Earlier indications had been that Lloyd Kazapua would be the keeper moving to the Buccaneers from the Chilli Boys, although it has since been confirmed by the Soweto giants that Chaine has joined on a three-year deal.
Indications from insiders at Chippa are that Akpeyi is targeted for a return to the side he first played for in Mzansi before his move to Chiefs in 2019.
