Comitis Denies Signing Chiefs Midfielder

Comitis Denies Signing Chiefs Midfielder

Cape Town City chairman John Comitis has denied rumours that the club is set to sign Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Mduduzi Mdantsane.

Despite these denials, insiders close to both clubs have indicated that negotiations could be underway for Mdantsane's potential return to Cape Town City, either on loan or as a permanent transfer.

According to these sources, the former Baroka FC midfielder is considering the move to gain more playing time and revitalise his career.

"There are negotiations on the progress. It's not a done deal yet but there could be a deal in January whereby Mdu (Mdantsane) goes to Cape Town City. It's all about game time for the player and as for City it's about strengthening their squad as they want to fight for a better position in the league mainly in the second round and they feel the experience of Mdantsane can help them," the Siya source stated.

A second insider noted the primary consideration: whether Mdantsane could join City on a short-term loan or permanently?

"Those are the few issues that they are supposed to look at. You know he still has a contract until June 2026 so that's what they also have to look at whether they will just need him for this second half of the season or if they would want to keep him further after this season and that means buying him permanently from Chiefs. They have to finalise those details soon," the second source stated.

Comitis, however, firmly stated, "That's not true," in response to whether City will sign the Amakhosi player.

Chiefs did not respond to inquiries at the time of preparing this story. Despite Comitis's denial, whether as a short-term solution or a permanent addition, the resolution of any future discussions could provide a strategic advantage for City while offering Mdantsane the opportunity to reignite his playing career.

In his first season with Chiefs, Mdantsane played a fair amount of Premiership games. However, this season he has not featured due to injury recovery and his exclusion from coach Nasreddine Nabi's plans, leading to speculation about a loan or permanent move. Comitis' denial could also mean that Mdantsane's name was a possibility but now with Eric Tinkler having parted ways at the Cape Town club, things could have changed.

Muhsin Ertugral was named CT City's interim coach on Thursday, and he is expected to move into the technical director position at the end of this campaign. It remains to be seen whether Mdantsane could be a target for Ertugral.
