With Kaizer Chiefs looking to add to their firepower ahead of the new campaign, they could once again turn their attention to the sought-after Ashley Cupido. Bobby Motaung, the Naturena-based side's football manager, confirmed to SuperSport TV that the club are looking for a striker, but emphatically stated that it was not Gabadinho Mhango they were after, thus dispelling the speculation that has been out there.
"Kaizer (Motaung) Jr. deals with the names, I deal with the team, the whole team, the football environment. But not Gabadinho Mhango, but we are looking at our striking force, we are trying to beef up our striking force. We've got two, three injuries in the striking department, so we are trying to beef up that department. Not Gabadinho Mhango. But Kaizer Jr. will announce, soon." he said, prior to the friendly match against Township Rollers.
Now, according to well-placed Siya sources, Amakhosi will be looking to test newly-promoted Cape Town Spurs' resolve over their star striker. The Glamour Boys had enquired about the 21-year-old before. However, the Urban Warriors made it clear that they would be holding onto the marksman for at least one season in the topflight before considering any offer for him.
Now, news reaching Soccer Laduma is that Chiefs are willing to push the boundary to land the player and are ready to enter into talks with the Ikamva-based outfit for his signature. Although at this stage, it remains to be seen if the Glamour Boys manages to sway Spurs with an offer too irresistible to turn down, or whether they would have to look elsewhere as the striker search intensifies.
