With SAFA taking the decision to implement the club licensing regulations on coaching badges starting next season, the Siya crew has been informed that several Premier Soccer League coaches are concerned.
At their NEC meeting last weekend, the mother body confirmed that the CAF guidelines around professional coaches needing to be qualified to sit in the dugout will be adopted starting August 2023.
This means the same rules that have been followed for interclub matches in the Champions League and Confederation Cup, where head coaches without the CAF A License have not been allowed to occupy their seats on the bench, are set to be implemented at PSL level.
Furthermore, it's emerged that goalkeeper coaches will also now be required to have a minimum CAF B License to be part of the technical team pitch side too – which probably prohibits even more local coaches.
The Siya crew understands there are now a number of tacticians in the PSL who are enquiring about the programs across the continent as they will be forced to enroll themselves or face being out of jobs. SAFA will meet them halfway by continuing with courses in SA next year, but with limited space given the costs.
But neighbouring countries like Lesotho, Botswana and Zambia could be inundated with calls from Mzansi to accommodate their PSL counterparts ahead of crunch time.
The official announcement came from SAFA at a press conference following the NEC meeting. However, there's been no word yet from the League, but it is not expected they will go against the mother body.
