Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa is on the verge of breaking two goalscoring records at the club, as he closes in on record holder Benedict 'Tso' Vilakazi.
Mabasa has had a fruitful 2024 at Pirates scoring 20 goals in the previous calendar year, including two hat-tricks in a 7-1 hammering of Golden Arrows and an 8-1 walloping of Marumo Gallants.
After the Bloemfontein native striker netted a hat-trick against Gallants, he surpassed former Buccaneers greats Steve Lekoelea, who has scored 36 goals, Sibusiso Zuma, 37, and Andries Sebola 38, in the all-time scorers' list in the PSL era at Ezimnyama.
The 28-year-old forward entered the 2024/25 season equal on the all-time goal list with Thembinkosi Lorch and Kermit Erasmus, who are just about in joint ninth place, with 34 goals apiece for the club.

However, after scoring seven goals in the new campaign, Mabasa is currently joint third with former striker Denis Lota on 39 goals in the all-time leading finishers at the Soweto giants.
The former Bloemfontein Celtic striker needs three more goals to leapfrog the late Lesley Manyathela and Phumlani Mkhize, who are joint second on the list with 41 goals.
Should Mabasa score at least three more goals, he will be chasing a club record of 58 goals (also recorded as 52 goals by other official databases) scored by Vilakazi, the all-time leading scorer at The Ghost in the PSL era.
It took Vilakazi eight years to climb up to the top of the all-time goalscoring list, from 1998, before he was signed by Danish side Aalborg BK in July 2007.
Mkhize and Manyathela were prolific, after both scoring 41 goals in three years while it took Lota four years to score 39 goals.

Mabasa, also sitting on 39 goals, it took him four years to reach the milestone, excluding, of course, the one year and six months he spent at Sekhukhune United and Moroka Swallows on loan.
Zuma was also notably prolific, after scoring 37 goals for the Buccaneers in just two years before he was signed by Danish giants Copenhagen in 2000.
