Royal AM are aiming to cause an upset in this year's Nedbank Cup to wrap up what has been a remarkable first topflight season for the club.
Having bought the topflight status of Bloemfontein Celtic prior to the start of the season, the KwaZulu-Natal outfit has been one of the impressive teams in the DStv Premiership this season.
Apart from having already qualifed for the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup this season, the team is second on the log standings behind defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
As confirmed by the PSL, the team's quarter-final match will be at Chatsworth Stadium on April 10 against second tier club University of Pretoria and midfielder Given Mashikinya says his team are aiming for the final of the competition.
"Out of a possible three gold medals, I only have three so far if you think of how many times I have been in cup finals. I won't say that this upcoming one will be an easy fixture, but I would say there is a bit of a chance for us, and I thank God for that although we won't take them for granted. They are a difficult side to play against because they also play in the topflight (PSL) and they need to be taken seriously. But I think we stand a chance to go to the final and I think we also stand a chance to win it. The last time I was in the final of the Nedbank Cup was when Bloemfontein Celtic played against Mamelodi Sundowns and we lost 1-0. Against Tuks, we don't have to take things for granted and we need to make sure that we progress to the next stage of the competition," said Mashikinya, speaking to the Siya crew.
