KwaZulu-Natal teams are under scrutiny after another poor display in the Nedbank Cup.
AmaZulu FC, Golden Arrows, Maritzburg United and Richards Bay FC have all been knocked out of the first round of the Nedbank Cup and Phelelani Mpangase believes the poor cup run in KwaZulu-Natal is as a result of the lack of ambition by club bosses.
"For players to not take the cup seriously, starts with club bosses, because if they do set mandates to coaches of winning cup finals, players will be pushed to the limit to deliver those trophies," Mpangase told the Siya crew.
"In KZN teams just want to finish in the top eight, even when they finish in the top eight, they don't do justice in the MTN8. They get knocked out early, now you ask yourself, do KZN teams only care about top eight finish? Is that enough for them?"
As much as KwaZulu-Natal is perceived as the most talented province in the country, results prove otherwise as they struggle to win trophies.
"It is like teams enjoy being in a comfort zone, securing the PSL status is enough for them. We can't allow the situation where KZN teams can't compete for cups, even new teams such as Marumo Gallants, TS Galaxy, Cape Town City and Baroka FC have won cups before us.
"I think we not an ambitious province, it is like they don't have vision to win cups. In other provinces, coaches are told about visions, three-year plans to compete. KZN needs that, there's so much talent.
"We hope Royal AM can at least put some dignity to the province and do well."
