After Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates won their semi-final ties against Platinum Stars and Bidvest Wits respectively, it means the Soweto giants will face each other in the MTN8 final in late September.
This Soweto derby will be a winner-takes-all affair – the MTN8 champions receive R8 million while the runners-up receive a relatively paltry R800 000.
This means the final, which is due to take place later next month, is anticipated to be a fierce battle especially with so much at stake. With such a huge financial reward on the line, both sets of fans will no doubt be hoping to see a derby with passion and plenty of goalmouth action.
Arguably, recent derbies have been largely devoid of quality as well as meaningful action in the final third. However, this upcoming clash could promise so much more in that playing for a 0-0 draw would make no sense for either side.
Amakhosi coach, Stuart Baxter, believes the final will be a great occasion for South African football as a whole. He told the club's official website, "It's tremendous, it will be a great occasion. If we look at the derbies before, this one's a cup final, so that will give it some extra spice. It's a special occasion, especially for SA football."
The MTN8 final date is set to take place on 20 September, although the official venue is yet to be announced.
Have your say - how much will the big payday motivate both teams?
