Football legend Brent Carelse has made a bold prediction about the team he thinks will triumph in this year's MTN8 competition.
Following the 1-1 draw for Golden Arrows and Mamelodi Sundowns at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Saturday, Cape Town City are set to welcome Swallows FC in the second first leg semi-final match at Athlone Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Carelse believes that Eric Tinkler's side will be too much to handle for Brandon Truter's team over the two legs, with the former Ajax Cape Town and Sundowns star predicting that the Citizens will go all the way and win the MTN8 trophy.
"This one is also a tough game, but I saw a lot of City even during pre-season and they are exciting. They have most of their team, if not 90%, the core of their team which they played with last season. I think at the end of last season, they didn't do too well but Tinkler had just come in towards the end and he was also trying to sort out and get his message across to the players. I think they are getting back to their old style, because I think just before Benni (McCarthy) joined the club, Tinkler was in charge of the team. So, they look like that again, they look the same way like when they went to the last MTN8 final," said Carelse, speaking to the Siya crew.
"I think Swallows has a lot of Cape Town players in their team, but I don't think they have enough for Cape Town City, especially going forward. Cape Town City have an abundance of quality players going forward in the likes of (Mpho) Bibo Makola, (Bradley) Ralani, (Khanyisa) Mayo and all those players. They are experienced players, and they know how to find the goal and they know how to pick a pass. When I look on the other side, Swallows is not very convincing in that area. I give it to City, and I see a lot of goals from City over these two legs. The Citizens will go all the way and win the MTN8," he said.
