A former Mamelodi Sundowns player has his doubts about the Brazilians' chances in the MTN8.
Downs drew 1-1 with Golden Arrows in their first leg semifinal match played at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Saturday.
With Manqoba Mngqithi, Rulani Mokwena and Steve Komphela hoping to finally bring the trophy to Chloorkop after it eluded the club for a long time, former Sundowns midfielder Brent Carelse is sceptical about the team's chances in the competition.
"If you check even their last few games, including the quarterfinal of the MTN8, they are still the Sundowns of old. This is a cup competition, and you need to score goals to win the game. Sundowns scored early against Chiefs in the quarterfinal but after that they didn't do anything for the entire 60 minutes. They didn't threaten Chiefs or anything," said Carelse, speaking to the Siya crew.
"The coaches are still trying to find their starting eleven that will give them a good show from the beginning. Maybe, they will win the league and the other trophies that come late in the season but this one is eluding them. The thing is that they build every season, and it becomes difficult for them," he said.
