Uthongathi FC have broken its silence on the struggles of the club before the beginning of the season.
The KZN outfit has been dealing with financial challenges over the past three years with sale of the club a possibility, as previously reported by the Siya crew.
One of the team members has given clarity on the recent rumours.
"Yes Nompumelelo Nhlumane is our chairlady and all alone in running the club. We are struggling financially and it has causd lots of problems, including almost getting relegated last season due to those challenges," Siyabonga Nhlumane told the media during the KZN Premier's Cup launch.
"Our chairlady needed someone to assist the club financially but the businessman that she spoke to, got too excited and wanted to move the club from the province, so the team remained in KZN.
"There were talks, but I can't comfirm nor deny whether there was agreement signed, what I know is the club remains with the team."
Nhlungwana then pleaded with KZN including MEC of Sport Hlengiwe Mavimbela to save them from these financial struggles.
"We are in need of assistance. We call on KZN to help this club to survive. We can't let this team go because it (has) potential, we call for assistance even to the MEC."
The MEC has since responded to the call by promising to meet the club's management to find solutions.
