Mamelodi Sundowns will have the final say on Lyle Lakay's future amid earlier fears that the club could lose the versatile player.
Following the Brazilians' surprise decision to send Lakay on loan to Cape Town City, there had been fears that the defending champions might have erred, as information in the public domain at the time suggested that the player was nearing the end of his contract.

However, sources have confirmed to the Siya crew that Lakay signed a contract extension before departing Chloorkop to guarantee his return and his long-term future with the club.
"He signed a contract extension just before the end of last season and therefore he will be going back to Sundowns at the end of the current campaign," confirmed the source.

The Citizens are thought to have been interested in signing the reigning Defender of the Season on a permanent deal if he was to be available.
Lakay had an impressive season with the Mother City outfit during the 2017/18 campaign, where he featured in 28 league matches and bagged five assists on top of the two goals he scored, before he made the move to Downs.
At Downs, the 31-year-old would have to compete with the likes of Aubrey Modiba and Terrence Mashego among others for the left-back position in coach Rulani Mokwena's team.
