Mamelodi Sundowns' shaky CAF Champions League campaign has overshadowed a perfect start by head coach Miguel Cardoso in the Betway Premiership, as he has caught up with a start by Manqoba Mngqithi.

The manner in which the Brazilians qualified, needing a draw against FAR Rabat in the last group game to make it through to the quarter-finals, has overshadowed the Portuguese's perfect start in the Betway Premiership.
The former Esperance mentor has won his first four league games after a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Magesi on Wednesday, a week after he was named Coach of the Month for November and December.
Cardoso's predecessor Mngqithi won his first four league matches as a new head coach at the beginning of the season before a 1-0 defeat to Polokwane City, as another league win for the 52-year-old would mean he has made a better start in the league than the KwaZulu-Natal native tactician.

Mokwena won 11 league games in a row from his first match as a head coach, a 5-0 trouncing of Maritzburg United, before a 1-1 draw by Stellenbosch ended his invincibility.

Cardoso has made a better start in the league than Mngqithi and Mokwena after they took over from Pitso Mosimane as co-coaches at the beginning of the 2020/21.
Mngqithi and Mokwena dropped points in their second game in charge, although they almost finished the campaign unbeaten, as their first defeat came only in April 2021 after a surprise 2-1 loss to limping Kaizer Chiefs, who were still suffering the effects of a transfer ban.
