In Numbers: How Petersen Snatched Chiefs Number One Jersey

Despite having to wait for his opportunity, Brandon Petersen appears to have established himself as Chiefs' number one, with the numbers to prove that he has outperformed both Itumeleng Khune and Bruce Bvuma this season.

Arthur Zwane, in trying to find his perfect combination has rotated his goalkeepers with regularity this season, although the results have varied.

Of the four keepers at Amakhosi, all of them barring young Bontle Molefe has had an opportunity between the sticks, although the numbers show that Petersen has been most impressive for Chiefs.

Khune has played 11 matches, in which he has conceded 12 goals, while Bvuma has conceded seven goals in the four matches he played.

Petersen, meanwhile, has conceded just four goals in the matches that he has played, justifying Zwane's decision to make him the club's number one.

"I waited for my opportunity, and it came now and obviously I took it with both hands, and you never know when someone else's chance will come so, while I have a chance to play, is to do the best I can do and help the team where I can," he told journalists of his position this season.

It's not only the goalkeepers that have been rotated, injuries and a lack of form has meant that Chiefs' back four has been rotated regularly this season, something that Petersen had to adjust to.

"Obviously, you want to find a balance and create that chemistry, but the way we train, we play with different players and a different back four. So for me, it is to get to know all my players and when I get an opportunity to play with them, it is to know all their strengths and weaknesses and then see where I can help them bring the best out of them. At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter who I play with, at training is where I create my chemistry, so whoever gets to play, I adapt to," he continued.
