Kaizer Chiefs made strategic moves at the beginning of the current season, signing many players with the aim of building a strong team and altering their fortunes.
Despite a challenging start, Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Junior is optimistic about the direction in which the club is headed.

During a media open day, Motaung Junior explained that the focus on signing defensive players laid a solid foundation for the team.
"When we sighed the players in the off season we first looked at the foundation which is our defence and that's why we signed seven defensive players and only Gaston Sirino as an attacking option. We were signing in phases. We are still looking at signing other players in different departments to strengthen the squad but at the moment we are confident with the direction we are going in."
Motaung emphasized this phased approach to signings, indicating they are still working to strengthen various other team positions. Discussing new signings during the January transfer window, Motaung Junior acknowledged the importance of transparency with fans—the key stakeholders in the club's success.
"Talking about new signings in the January transfer window is always a sensitive topic because we would love as a team to be transparent and talk to the people. Our fans are the most important people and stakeholders. I want to take out the connotation that the club is not doing anything. We do everything for them and it would be foolish for us not to do anything in this window but we have to respect the players we have and give them them confidence to do what they are doing on the field of play," Motaung Junior told journalists.
He continued, stressing the importance of showing respect not only to current players but also to other clubs when pursuing new talents.

"We are very much aware of the areas we need to strengthen, you know. We are working tirelessly every day with the technical team, management and the committee to make the right decisions and obviously have engaged with many teams and many players and it's very disrespectful to talk about other clubs' players. I know people want to know information. To know progress. But it will be of great disservice to those teams to be talking about their players but we are working hard not just for this January transfer window period but also for June. We are preparing on two folds because there is a short term, but we also have to plan for next season. So, we are taking the steps that we can and we are working tightly behind the scenes " Motaung observed.
Chiefs are targeting notable strikers like Fiston Mayele, Michael Olunga, and Clement Mzize, along with wingers Oswin Appollis and Tshepang Moremi. With two weeks remaining before the January transfer window closes, it remains to be seen if Amakhosi will finalise any other signings, after being linked to SuperSport United's Tashreeq Morris.
