Amakhosi made five changes from their defeat against Golden Arrows, as goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune, Edmilson Dove, Given Msimango, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Ranga Chivaviro were all brought in.
The Glamour Boys were aggressive going forward in the opening exchanges as within the first five minutes Chivaviro came close with a curling shot that missed just wide.
Edson Castillo eventually gave Chiefs the lead on 15 minutes with a well executed free header in the box from a cross by Yusuf Maart.
The hosts continued to apply the pressure and Chivaviro doubled their lead and scored his first goal for the club on 24 minutes with a low finish on the blind side from a ricochet in the box.
Spurs had encouraging moments going forward, as they threatened in the Amakhosi box and Luvuyo Phewa pulled a goal back just before the break with a low strike past Khune's out-stretched leg after a ball over the top by Jarrod Moroole.
Cavin Johnson's charges were lively after the break but only came close to restoring a two-goal lead on the hour-mark after Mduduzi Shabalala forced an out-stretched save from goalkeeper Sam Ramsbottom.
As the encounter settled, Amakhosi needed fresh legs with 20 minutes to go, as Pule Mmodi and Mduduzi Mdantsane both replaced Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Shabalala.
The game was still open for the Urban Warriors to level matters and former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Bradley Ralani came close 15 minutes before time with a looping shot in the box that came off the crossbar.
However, Amakhosi finally restored their two-goal cushion six minutes before time after Christian Saile made it 3-1 with a low shot across goal and into the bottom corner after a good combination play.
Late substitute, 17-year old Luke Baartman pulled a goal back for Spurs in the last minute with a powerful shot in the box but it was too little too late as Chiefs returned to winning ways ahead of the Soweto derby.
