‘Kaizer Chiefs Is The Mother And The Flag Of The Nation’

‘Kaizer Chiefs Is The Mother And The Flag Of The Nation’

Former Kaizer Chiefs Public Relations Officer Louis 'Sprinter' Tshakoane has weighed in on why the standards at the club have dropped over the years and what is the solution.

Tshakoane was a famous PRO at Chiefs during their most successive years in the 80s and 90s and has given his view on why the current crop can't live up to those standards of years gone by.

The flamboyant former Amakhosi official says the current crop of players don't have enough desire to play overseas, that's why the standards have dropped.

"People should keep hope that these youngsters of Kaizer Chiefs will come back and be one of those great stars," Tshakoane said on Radio 2000's Game On.

"But you know psychologically, if you analyse today's players, I think they don't have the ego or the oomph of saying they want to play overseas.

"Before, the players used to be very hungry to play overseas, let alone the national squad but overseas but now they've got the opportunity that if they take their game to the highest standard, they are standing to have the opportunity to play for Bafana Bafana and play in the World Cup," he said.

"So it's even more palatable now to play football because football pays a lot of money but I'm surprised that the young generation are not jacked up to that standard."

Tshakoane also questioned the kind of players that Chiefs have recruited over the years and says for them to return to their glory days, they have to copy Mamelodi Sundowns because that is what made them successful during his time at the club.

"The club is recruiting but it depends on what kind of players are you recruiting. Are they hungry enough to prove a point that Kaizer Chiefs is the mother and the flag of the nation? Because it's an institute," Tshakoane went on.

"The environment determines the mind of an individual, if the environment is conducive for you to perform, you will definitely perform, so have patience to motivate the young players now and have the right coaches to indoctrinate them, because you'll produce something.

"If Sundowns can be up at that level, obviously they've got to copy from Sundowns, what good things is Sundowns doing, because us as Kaizer Chiefs we have been doing that for donkey's years," he added.
