Top 5 Chiefs Surprise Striker Signings Before Morris

Top 5 Chiefs Surprise Striker Signings Before Morris

After Kaizer Chiefs made the shock signing of Tashreeq Morris from SuperSport United, Soccer Laduma looks at surprise striker acquisitions by Chiefs from PSL clubs.

Although Chiefs are yet to confirm the signing of Morris, SuperSport head coach Gavin Hunt has already made it official that the 30-year-old forward has joined the Glamour Boys, with Christian Saile going the opposite direction.

The Glamour Boys rarely make striker signings from PSL clubs and if that happens, it is expected that it should be for a forward that is on demand.

Morris joins Chiefs with only two goals from ten appearances for Matsatsansa, with one against Amakhosi, in the first half of the season, having only joined United at the beginning of the campaign.

At least from the last ten seasons, Amakhosi made a surprise signing of Matthew Rusike in 2012, after the Zimbabwean forward had only scored three goals in 16 games for Jomo Cosmos a season prior. Rusike scored only four goals for the Soweto giants in three seasons at Naturena.

The Glamour Boys also brought on board Bongani Ndulula from AmaZulu in 2015, after Ndulula had scored only five goals in 26 games a season before at Usuthu. The former Bafana Bafana striker left Chiefs a season later without scoring.

Amakhosi also made a shock signing of Ryan Moon in 2016 after Moon only featured in three games for Golden Arrows and had no goal a season prior, although his signing was seen as an investment, as Moon was only 19. However, the left-footed striker scored only seven goals for Chiefs in three seasons.

The Soweto giants also signed Edward Manqele in 2015, who had only scored two goals a season before for Chippa United. Manqele left Amakhosi with only one goal to his name across two campaigns.

Katlego Mphela also made a surprise switch to Chiefs in January 2014, having scored only two goals six months prior for Mamelodi Sundowns.

Mphela went on to score four goals in the same season for Amakhosi but did not score again before he was released after a year.
