The story
Third tier German side, SV Wehen Wiesbaden (SVWW) may have cancelled their team's trip to South Africa at the 11th hour, but were still able to make a difference alongside Stellenbosch FC and Cape Town City.
Wehen Wiesbaden were scheduled to face both Stellies and CT City last week but had to cancel their tour due to unforeseen logistical complications regarding the German side's travel arrangements.
"We had very much been looking forward to the sporting event and do regret the need for its cancellation. We wish to express our thanks to Stellenbosch FC for their ongoing support of our social projects," said Nico Schäfer, SVWW's chairman of the board in a statement.
Those social projects saw SVWW visit Kayamandi Primary School in Stellenbosch to support the Open Play Foundation's GreenSource Project, in partnership with German water filter company, BRITA.
The Open Play Foundation alongside Global United have contributed immensely to the development of Stellenbosch's future football stars by building an artificial football field, right next to a water harvesting system and a water purification plant — built to provide clean water for the Kayamandi coummunity.
BRITA provided additional water connection for the community with a sizable donation an 300 water bottles with filters were handed out to children being coached by SVWW representatives in a football clinic.
