The former Mamelodi Sundowns, Moroka Swallows and Bafana Bafana midfielder Lerato Chabangu has been heavily discussed on social media since a picture of him and Junior Khanye was shared by the latter.

Chabangu's off-field struggles with finances, an alcohol addiction and his shaky personal life plagued the twilight stages of his career, which was spent mainly at Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Three years ago, when Chabangu spoke to iDiski Times, he had plans to go into coaching and to also mentor youngsters through a Foundation.

Chabangu, who's was affectionately known as 'All you need is love' is currently living at home in Thembisa with no clear indication of his involvement in football.

His recent pictures with Junior Khanye have been doing the rounds on social media, with many hoping for Chabangu to bounce back:

The former midfielder once detailed his struggles away from football with the Sowetan several years ago, revealing his financial struggles and drinking habits during his peak years as a player.

"I blew all my money on useless things because I was always guaranteed a salary the following month," Chabangu once told Sowetan.

"We used to finish training by 11am and thereafter you are free to do whatever you want. We would go to Shisanyama after training and chill there over a few drinks and it just became a habit."

"I separated from my wife because of financial issues and I do not see my (six-year-old) daughter anymore because she is with her mother," said Chabangu at the time.

"I have made many mistakes in my life and I feel I have learned my lessons. Things are tough and I am not the kind of person who likes to beg.

"I have nothing left. Football is all I know and I hope there's someone out there who can give me another chance," he added.
