The story
Ime Okon has been gleefully celebrating his brother, Udeme Okon, for clinching Gold in the the 400m at the under-20 World Championships in Lima, Peru on Thursday night (Friday morning SA time).
Udeme stunned the field as he caught up to two front-running Americans on the final stretch to clinch gold by crossing the line in 45.69 seconds.
Ime, who enjoyed a breakthrough campaign for SuperSport United in the 2023/24 season, took to his Instagram stories to pay tribute to his 18-year-old brother for leaving the athletics world stunned.
"I have no words @_udems_, I'm so proud of you," posted Ime in a now deleted IG story, where he reposted a Tweet from World Athletics, confirming Udeme's win.
"Only God knows the struggles and challenges we have been through. I've never doubted our abilities to endure and overcome every obstacle we have faced. I know daddy is proud of us," shared Ime in a touching post on his story, resharing snap of him and Udeme from a recent athletics meet and a throwback of them as children.
The future bodes well for the talented Okon brothers in their respective sporting fields and both will hope to celebrate more career milestones in the near and distant future.
