Mhlongo's Top 5 Local Players
After an eye injury forced him to retire aged 30, former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo is living his best life as a TV Sports host on eTV's The Morning Show, along with enjoying several brand deals along the way.
Mhlongo hung up his boots after a freak accident at training in 2021, having last represented Marumo Gallants.
He also plied his trade with one of the Soweto giants and Bidvest Wits, winning the Nedbank Cup with Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila — sharing the pitch with some undeniable legends of the PSL.
Mhlongo was asked to name his top five local footballers by 10bet, mentioning a late Orlando Pirates legend as his number one.
"Number one is definitely Senzo Meyiwa, two is Oupa Manyisa, three Itumeleng Khune, definitely. The five guys, it's small. You know how people get angry at you, Like 'Why didn't you pick me,' I'm sorry guys it's nothing personal, I'm just thinking from the top of my head" says Mhlongo, who concluded his top 5 list with Andile Jali and Mamelodi Sundowns captain, Themba Zwane.
