Let's take a closer look at Dr Motaung's Mustang beauty from back in the day...

Dr Kaizer Motaung's Mustang

Although nowadays Dr Motaung's ride of choice is a luxurious Mercedes Benz GLE, back in his younger days, the legend used to ride around Soweto in a Mustang!

A picture that appears to be from around 1970's era, the same period Dr Motaung formed Amakhosi, was shared on social media recently.

The legendary Motaung's American influence was strong back then, having closed out the 1960's with the Atlanta Chiefs, with aforementioned pic seeing him posing next to one of the earliest Ford Mustangs.

Chincha Guluva was pictured with what appears to be a 1969 Ford Mustang Grande. As mentioned by tradeclassics.com, the Ford Mustang has been in continuous production since 1964! It's Ford's longest-produced nameplate to date.

"The Mustang is a highly-styled line of sporty coupes and convertibles instantly distinguishable by their long hood and short deck proportions," they added.

This Mustang goes for between R400k to R750k on overseas vintage car resale markets, far less than the luxe rides Dr Motaung sees himself in these days.

As stated by Mustang Specs, the Mustang Grande helped revive the spiraling Ford Mustang sales in the 1960's.

"One attempt to target a different consumer was the Mustang Grande, trying to help Ford find a more affluent client who appreciated some more luxury and creature comforts," mentions the article.

The Mustang Grande was born in 1969 with its luxurious interior setting it apart from its other competitors in the market.

"It was available in only the hardtop body style. The original Mustang Grande featured an upgraded interior with imitation wood trim, a smoother, more refined ride and additional sound-deadening materials. More than twice the usual amount of insulation (55 pounds) helped soak up noise and vibrations," added the Mustang Specs write-up on this top notch vehicle.
