Hlanti Returns, Foreign Duo Not in Wits' CAF squad

Hlanti Returns, Foreign Duo Not in Wits' CAF squad

On Saturday, Bidvest Wits travelled to Eswatini to face Young Buffaloes in the CAF Confederation Cup first-round, first-leg tie. They lost 1-0 but welcomed back key Bafana Bafana man, Sifiso Hlanti. Meanwhile, two new foreign signings have not been registered for the competition.

With little media coverage of the game, the lineup selected for the match by Gavin Hunt has been something of a secret with the club's official social media channels not providing any updates on the match. However, Soccer Laduma have got their hands on the teamsheet.

One welcome return to action was for Sifiso Hlanti, who injured his knee on Africa Cup of Nations duty with Bafana Bafana. He returned to the starting XI just in time for Wits' key clash against Orlando Pirates next Saturday.

Meanwhile, newly signed foreign central defenders Joseph Douadji and Kenneth Sebastian have not been registered for the competition and are yet to appear in a matchday squad for The Clever Boys this season.

Wits have struggled in recent continental action, bowing out at the first hurdle of the Confederation Cup and CAF Champions League in each of the last four years.

The Students have been involved in the last two CAF Confederation Cups but were knocked out by Nigeria's Enyimba in the play-off round last year and by Egypt's Smouha in 2017-18.

They play the return leg against Young Buffaloes on Friday the 27th of September, looking to overturn the 1-0 deficit.
