It was explained earlier in the week that 'Mido' had suffered a minor Achilles injury during the 2-0 win over Bidvest Wits, though Ernst Middendorp did insist that it was more of a precautionary measure than anything serious.
As they named their starting XI for the clash with ZESCO – which they went on to lose 3-1 – the club said on their official website that the midfield man was left in Johannesburg so that he could recover properly ahead of their next game.
The club explained, "Absent, however, is George Maluleka, who is suffering from a slight Achilles problem and has stayed behind in Johannesburg to recover… "It's nothing too serious, but it was decided to give the midfielder some time to fully recover."
Chiefs will now welcome the Zambians at FNB Stadium next Saturday knowing that a 2-0 win will be enough to secure their place in the group stages of the CCC, with Khama Billiat's away goal in Ndola a strand of hope for the Glamour Boys.
