Al Ahly ‘Make’ Massive Call On Coach Amid Riveiro Links

Al Ahly ‘Make’ Massive Call On Coach Amid Riveiro Links

Egyptian giants Al Ahly have reportedly made a massive decision on their head coach amid links to Jose Riveiro.

According to media personality Mohamed Abu Ali, the Club of the Century has decided against extending the contract of head coach Marcel Koller.

The Swiss tactician has been in charge of the Red Devils for close to four years now, having been appointed in September 2022, but it seems that the 2024/25 campaign will be his final one in the Egyptian capital.

The 64-year-old has had a trophy-laden spell in North Africa since arriving, winning a total of 11 titles, which include successive triumphs in the CAF Champions League, but now it seems that Ahly have become disillusioned with his abilities.

Speaking on the Sada El Balad channel, Abu Ali admitted that the only matter of contention now is whether to part ways with Koller before or after the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States of America.

The record African champions will play the competition’s opening match against Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami and will likely be looking to make a big impression at the revamped global spectacle.

Some within the club’s board of directors believe that it would be best for the club to continue with the Zurich native for the duration of the competition, while others are adamant that making a new appointment beforehand would be in the club’s best interests.

One of the coaches being touted as a possible replacement for Koller is Orlando Pirates boss Jose Riveiro according to North African outlet One3.news.

"Al Ahly club has already contacted the Spanish coach," a source told Egyptian publication One3.news.

"Al Ahly officials have contacted the Spanish coach via Zoom meeting to find out all his requests, as well as his aspirations and future plans.

"And if he takes over the technical leadership of the team in the coming period, in the event that Swiss Marcel Koller, the current coach of Al Ahly club, leaves.

"Al Ahly club officials have not yet made a final decision regarding Jose, and the coach is still awaiting a response from Al Ahly management, especially in light of the several calls and offers he has received from other clubs."

The Spaniard confirmed earlier this month that he would be leaving the Soweto giants, and it is alleged that they are keen on pouncing on that possibility.
