Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has given his thoughts on a new defender understood to have attracted interest from Soweto giants Orlando Pirates.
Broos has included Stellenbosch FC defender Thabo Moloisane in his squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin, a reward for his solid performances at club level. As previously reported by the Siya crew, Moloisane is a Pirates target and the Soweto giants are expected to display their interest when the next transfer window opens.

Moloisane is with the Bafana team in Polokwane as they prepare for the clash with Lesotho at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Friday. Broos has also included Ndamulelo Maphangule in his squad, as a replacement for Orlando Pirates attacking midfielder Patrick Maswanganyi and explained his decision to call-up these new players in his team.
"It's simple. It's the performances. The only problem is that you cannot call six young players because you are playing World Cup qualifications. You don't have a chance to play immediately in the team. The fact that they are with us is good for them. I will see how they behave in the group. Why you choose someone is because of performances. He (Moloisane) is a good defender, he (Maphangule) is a good midfielder," Broos said during a press conference held at the Ranch Hotel in Polokwane on Monday afternoon.

"The only thing with the player, is he good enough to achieve the level of the national team? We can see during the training and I said in June they will get a chance because there will be friendly games. That will be a very good moment to judge them. It's not one performance. We follow them like we follow them for 40 matches."
Bafana are second in Group C of the World Cup qualifiers, level on points with leaders Rwanda. Broos has targeted six points in the two matches and hopes it will place them top of the standings.
