Real Madrid stretched their lead at the top of the LaLiga table to eight points after beating Real Sociedad 2-0 on Saturday evening.

Result: Real Sociedad 0-2 Real Madrid

Venue: Reale Arena

Madrid made two changes from their win over Athletic Bilbao, as Rodrygo took the place of Marco Asensio to join Vinicius Junior and Karim Benzema upfront while Dani Carvajal was recalled at right-back in place of Lucas Vazquez.

Los Blancos had a slow start, as they were pinned back by Sociedad in the early stages and had an injury blow in the 17th minute after Benzema could not overcome a muscle problem and he was replaced by Luka Jovic.

However, Carlo Ancelotti's charges raised their game just after that, as Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo forced two saves out of goalkeeper Alex Remiro, in quick succession.

Sociedad were forced to play on counter-attacks in the closing phase of the first stanza and Mikel Oyarzabal had their best chance on the stroke of half-time after latching onto a knockdown towards the far post but his shot hit the side-netting.

The visitors had a perfect start in the second stanza, as Vinicius Junior broke the deadlock two minutes from the half-time break with a close-range finish after a cut-back by Jovic at the near post.

Madrid did not allow Imanol Alguacil's troops to settle, as Jovic doubled their lead just before the hour-mark with headed effort past Remiro from a corner situation.

However, Los Blancos were happy to let Sociedad have a lot more of the ball after that, staying compact at the back and they could even afford to substitute Casemiro 25 minutes before time as he was replaced by Eduardo Camavinga.

Alguacil's men were getting frustrated in the closing stages and Vinicius Junior had a chance to make it 3-0 in the dying minutes from a counter-attack but he was denied by Remiro, as Madrid comfortably held on to extend their lead at the top of the log to eight points.
