Former Bafana Bafana midfielder Alfred Phiri is understood to be making progress in hospital after being shot recently.
As confirmed by the police last week, Phiri was rushed to hospital last Thursday after being shot in his tavern in Alexandra.
As confirmed by the authorities at the time, the former footballer was admitted to the hospital in a serious but stable condition with injuries in the arm and lower body.
While the worst was feared for after another man who was shot died, as well as the perpetrator who turned the gun on himself, reports coming out of those close to Phiri are that the 47-year-old is recovering well and is in good spirits.
"Alfred Phiri is doing well and recovering in hospital. The injuries he sustained during the shooting are not as severe as initially feared and we are confident that he will be fine," said the source.
The police have opened a case of murder and attempted murder though the perpetrator is now dead after turning the gun on himself.
