Cristiano Ronaldo Slammed Amid Coronavirus Quarantine

Cristiano Ronaldo Slammed Amid Coronavirus Quarantine

Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has been slammed for how he has been behaving during his coronavirus quarantine, after three of his teammates tested positive for the illness.

The Portuguese forward initially travelled to Portugal to be with his mother after she suffered a stroke.

He then returned for Juve's game against Inter Milan, which was played behind closed doors, but headed back to Madeira before the whole team was placed under self-isolation after Daniele Rugani tested positive for the coronavirus.

However, former Juventus president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli has said Ronaldo, whose mother has since recovered from her stroke, is setting a bad example by leaving Italy and just "taking pictures by the pool".

"Things at Juventus got complicated when Cristiano Ronaldo left," he said, as quoted by The Sun.

"He said he was going to Portugal because of his mother, but now he only appears to be taking pictures by the pool.

"When the exception was made for him, things fell apart and others wanted to leave – but it shouldn't have been like this.

"They all should have been quarantined."

Ronaldo is not the only Juventus player not self-isolating in Italy – which is experiencing one of the worst COVID-19 outbreaks worldwide – with Sami Khedira, Miralem Pjanic, Rodrigo Bentancur and Gonzalo Higuain having also gone to their respective home countries.

"Criticising now is easy, but from the outside, I don't know why players wanted to leave Italy," Gigli added.

"When they return, it'll be more difficult to get back in shape because they'll have to stay in quarantine for 14 days."

Ronaldo, though, also made positive headlines when he and his agent Jorge Mendes donated €1 million to three intensive care units in Portugal to help fight the scourge of COVID-19.
