British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has confirmed he has tested positive for the coronavirus, while the global figures rose to over 500 000 cases of infection and more than 24 000 deaths.

In some breaking news from the United Kingdom, Johnson confirmed he tested positive after showing mild symptoms.
"Over the last 24 hours, I have developed mild symptoms and tested positive for coronavirus," he tweeted.
"I am now self-isolating, but I will continue to lead the government's response via video-conference as we fight this virus.
"Together we will beat this. #StayHomeSaveLives"

While South Africa's latest figures confirmed more than 1 000 positive cases, and sadly the first two deaths due to the virus, the worldwide figure rose to 542 417 cases and 24 354 deaths, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
The US has now overtaken China, where the virus was first discovered, in terms of confirmed cases – you can see a breakdown of the most impacted countries below:

China: 81 894 cases; 3 296 deaths
Italy: 80 589 cases; 8 215 deaths
Spain: 57 786 cases; 4 365 deaths
Germany: 47 278, 281 deaths
UK: 11 813 cases; 580 deaths
India: 761 cases; 20 deaths
World: 542 417 cases: 24 354 deaths
