On Wednesday afternoon, the White Knights played out a 0-0 draw with Stellies in Cape Town in what was an encounter that lacked many gilt-edged chances. However, for all the lack of action on the pitch, there seemed to be a tremendous amount of commotion in the stands.
Video began to circulate on social media from the stadium, where fans of the White Castle were seen getting into a physical fight with another contingent of supporters.
The footage emerged less than 24 hours after supporters of Mamelodi Sundowns and Espérance Sportive de Tunis were also captured getting into an intense altercation during their CAF Champions League quarter-final.
According to Zamalek Today, a source from the club revealed that the reason the brawl broke out in the stands in Cape Town is because Egyptian fans who reside in South Africa raised banners insulting the Egyptian state. The signage did not go down well with the Zamalek fans who travelled from Egypt, as they believed they were being pinned with a stance they did not believe in, and that is how the fight started.
The same report claims that club sporting director Abdel Wahed El Sayed was informed by a member of the club about the mini-skirmish which transpired, and he called upon CAF and security personnel to break apart the fight. However, he too was not immune to getting into a verbal altercation, as it is understood that the football chief was also singled out by one of the supporters after the match.

It remains to be seen whether there will be any retrospective action regarding the club, but it seems that fan hostility is becoming rife in recent continental encounters.
