After the Red Castle lost out on the league championship to RS Berkane, the club's two targets were to successfully win the Moroccan Throne Cup and to qualify for next season's CAF Champions League.
The North African giants have already failed in one of those ambitions, losing 1-0 to Moghreb Tetouan this past weekend and being eliminated from the cup, and it seems that the defeat has created even more angst around the club.
While the club supported Mokwena earlier in the campaign during their stuttering start, it seems that their patience has worn thin, and there are those who are hoping that the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates manager will leave as soon as possible.
According to Kooora, Hicham Ait Menna, the man who advocated for the Johannesburg native's appointment, is also coming under intense scrutiny, and has informed the manager of the expectations of the club's supporters and board of directors.
Despite the increasing pressure to step down as Wydad boss, the same report claims that Mokwena has refused to resign and wants to see out the remainder of the season in an effort to salvage the campaign by qualifying for Africa's premier club competition.

It is understood that firing the 2024 African Football League winner would be extremely costly for the record Moroccan champions — hence the calls for him to step down. However, it is also believed that the South African would be willing to step down from his role at the end of the season, free of charge, should he fail to lead the club to the CAF Champions League.
